Toby Bozzuto, President of the Bozzuto Group based out of Greenbelt, Maryland joins Cornell’s Baker Program in Real Estate for its final Distinguished Speaker Series of the Spring semester on April 30th. As President of The Bozzuto Group, Toby Bozzuto is responsible for the overall day-to-day direction of the company, its six divisions, and its more than 1,700 employees.
Previously, Mr. Bozzuto was President of the Bozzuto Development Company, where he oversaw development activities for the company’s apartment development operations. The Bozzuto Group is ranked as the 8th-largest company in the Greater Washington Area, with an annual revenue over $1 billion. The group has more than 5,000 rental units in the pipeline or under construction throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions for projects that range from urban high-rise properties to affordable housing.
Since taking over the President’s role from his father Tom Bozzuto in April 2013, Mr. Bozzuto continues to take the company to new heights. “I feel a massive responsibility to help make our company the very best place to work and to provide our employees with endless opportunities. I also feel an incredible weight to carry on the legacy and integrity that my father and his partners have built over the past 25 years.” Mr. Bozzuto explained in an interview with the Baltimore Sun.
Mr. Bozzuto joined The Bozzuto Group in 2001 and was named partner in 2007. He previously worked with J.P. Morgan Chase’s Real Estate Debt Group and was also a financial analyst with Columbia National Real Estate Finance. In 2010, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley appointed Toby to a seat on the Maryland Health and Higher Education Facilities Authority. He serves on the National Advisory Board for the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing, the Board of Trustees for the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Buildings & Grounds Committee for Maryland Institute College of Art, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute’s Baltimore District Council.
Mr. Bozzuto was named one of The Daily Record’s 2014 “Most Influential Marylanders,” Commercial Property Executive’s 2013 “Rising Leader,” to the Baltimore Business Journal’s “40 Under 40″ list and The Daily Record’s “Successful by 40″ list. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University and a Master of Science degree in Real Estate Development from New York University.
