Tiya Jain

Tiya Jain is a Baker Program in Real Estate graduate student. Prior to Baker she completed her chartered accountancy course in India (Equivalent to the CPA) and has 6 years of post-qualification experience with multinationals such as Ernst & Young, Deutsche Bank, Deloitte etc. Her last position at Deloitte involved advising large developers and private equity funds on funding, structuring and cost saving transactions in line with the local laws and regulations. Prior to Deloitte, she helped Aldia Capital, a boutique investment advisor in India, set up base in Mumbai. She was responsible for creating trusting relationships with the local real estate developers for the firm to secure $100 mm mandates. Tiya also strengthened local banking and financial relationships to the firm to tie up both ends of the deal making process. She is also interested in sustainable energy solutions, solar technology and she implemented the same for 3 housing societies in her neighborhood in Mumbai to cut energy costs by 25%. At Cornell, Tiya is the VP of Events for the Cornell Real Estate Women’s club that looks at leveraging opportunities for professional growth for women and eliminating the gender differences in the real estate industry. Tiya is also a Junior editor for the Cornell Review. The assignment involves contributing high quality research articles for the Cornell yearly journal and also interviewing real estate industry leaders who speak at the Distinguished Speaker Series. She enjoys playing Sudoku and practicing eastern philosophies such as yoga and meditation in her free time. Post Baker she would like to work in real estate investments and finance.

On April 20th, we have the distinct honor of hosting a webex with Ms. Susan Dollinger, Managing Director at Citigroup for the distinguished speaker series. With Susan, the Baker Program students will receive an education on international cross border real estate investments due to global exposure in her career. Currently based in Mexico City, Susan’s responsibilities include the portfolio management of Citi-Banamex´s exposure to key Mexican sectors: Government of Mexico, energy, utility, telecom, industrials and real estate.

Prior to moving to Mexico City, Susan was domiciled in Hong Kong for 8 years responsible for the real estate debt and equity positions throughout Asian Pacific Rim and Japan and exposures to private equity positions in a range of unrelated industries.

Susan is a proud Cornell alumnus with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government. Prior to assuming portfolio management responsibilities, she has had an extensive career serving clients in a range of industries, profiles, and geographies. Clients being served are in the developed and emerging economies in North America, Europe and Latam. Susan’s activities have included running new business development, leading equity investment activities in Europe and Asia, and restructuring real estate debt and equity positions globally. As part of these responsibilities she has represented Citigroup as a Member of the Board of Directors on multiple investments in the UK, France, Germany, India and China.

Throughout Susan’s career she has been actively engaged in doing pro bono work for nonprofits. Her interest in helping others has been on focusing on activities which hope to break the property cycle for the next generation be it education, career development and/or financial responsibility.

This interest has resulted in her being on the following Boards at various times but consistently throughout her career.
