The Baker Program in Real Estate is pleased to welcome Matthew Mitchell ’97, this week’s distinguished speaker. Mitchell is a Cornell graduate, and currently serves on the Board of the Baker Program in Real Estate. In 2009, Mitchell co-founded SteepRock Capital, and has served as a Co-Managing Partner since its inception.
SteepRock Capital is a Real Estate investment firm focused on acquiring and originating Mezzanine Loans and Subordinate Debt positions backed by institutional quality real estate assets in major US markets. SteepRock targets investments with attractive risk adjusted returns, and has acquired approximately $400mm worth of loans to date. SteepRock also currently serves as a Sub Advisor to KKR Real Estate Finance Trust, a private mortgage REIT. As a Managing Partner, Mitchell focuses on originating new investment opportunities, as well as overseeing the asset management of SteepRock’s portfolio.
Mitchell has deep experience in the Real Estate industry. Prior to founding SteepRock, he served as an executive vice President and Principal at Colonnade Properties LLC, an opportunistic real estate investment company, where he was primarily involved in project acquisition and asset management. Prior to joining Colonnade Properties in 2000, Mitchell served as Vice President of acquisitions for the Taylor Simpson Group, where he worked on acquiring domestic office and hotel assets for a private REIT. As a successful entrepreneur and industry veteran, Mitchell will bring a unique perspective to the series, one which Baker students are sure to enjoy.
