At this Thursday’s Distinguished Speaker Series, students of the Baker Program have the privilege of welcoming Doug Weill, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the real estate advisory boutique Hodes Weill & Associates. Mr. Weill and his partner David Hodes formed the company in 2009 after nearly a decade of successfully co-managing Credit Suisse’s Real Estate Private Fund Group, which the partners also co-founded. Weill’s impressive experience and record of success earned him the distinction in 2006 as one of the “30 Most Influential People in Private Equity Real Estate”.
In 2008, Weill assumed the responsibility of co-managing Credit Suisse’s Real Estate Investment Group, which had $37 billion in assets under management at his departure one year later. Weill joined Credit Suisse in 2000 when the company merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) where he had been working since 1997. Prior to joining DLJ, Weill worked at Paine Webber Incorporated where he was a Vice President in the Real Estate Investment Banking Group. He also worked at Kidder, Peabody & Co., which was acquired by Paine Webber in 1995. Prior to this, he worked as a Senior Real Estate Consultant at Kenneth Leventhal & Co. where he specialized in portfolio valuations, refinancings, business and strategic planning, workouts and bankruptcies. He began his career as an Associate at Hospitality Valuation Services where he focused on hotel valuations and feasibility studies. Mr. Weill earned his BS in Hotel Administration from Cornell in 1988.
The Baker Program has benefitted greatly from a close association with Mr. Weill and his company. For the past several years, Hodes Weill and the Baker Program have partnered to produce the Institutional Real Estate Allocations Monitor, an industry survey which examines real estate investment trends in institutional portfolios and the impact those trends will have on the investment management industry. (Highlights of the 2015 survey can also be found here.)
Baker students are pleased to welcome Mr. Weill back to campus and recognize him as this week’s distinguished speaker.
