The Baker Program in Real Estate is excited to welcome Martin Stern this Thursday evening to speak to students as a Distinguished Speaker. Mr. Stern leads the Real Estate Advisory Services group of CBRE Chicago, and is involved in key development and transaction assignments. His clients include the City of Chicago, the Village of Glenview, Chicago Mercantile Exchange Trust, Publicist Groupe S.A., Crate and Barrel, Columbia College Chicago, the YMCA of the USA, the Chicago Board of Education, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago
(formerly Children’s Memorial Hospital), Sinai Health System, and various family and trust investors. Most recently, Mr. Stern has been in the news for leading the independent due diligence report to evaluate One Winnetka, a 62-unit project consisting of condominiums, townhomes, and rentals near Chicago.
Mr. Stern is also extremely involved in community affairs. He helped to establish Amoco Neighborhood Development Corp., and conceived and implemented, in partnership with RESCORP, the Northpoint neighborhood revitalization in Chicago’s Rogers Park community, a public/private partnership that received the 1988 Urban Land Institute’s Award for Excellence for Rehabilitation.
Mr. Stern has received many accolades for his work. The Urban Land Institute presented him with its Award for Excellence, and the Chicago chapter of Lambda Alpha honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service. In 2011, Martin was named to the Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame by Midwest Real Estate News, and he was recently elected as a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute. Mr. Stern is a Cornell alumnus, having graduated in 1968 with a BS in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, and later earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. The program is excited to hear the wide array of knowledge he has obtained in his career.
